Next Steps
Following Christmas card sent to update to the residents in December 2024 and once the final draft of the report was made available, we held a preview event in late March 2025. Titled the Charterhouse Community Conversation, this event was for local residents and stakeholders to report on results and discuss possible ways forward, stressing the importance for the project team of the community-stakeholder driving decision-making.
The event was supported by the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, who attended to support with practicalities on the day, and the Tayside Christian Fellowship, who provided the space for free. At the event local residents and stakeholders were invited to: find out about the results of the scanning, learn more about the Carthusian monastery (including a selection of original documents being display, drawn from an earlier collaborative exhibition worked on by Lucy Dean and Culture Perth and Kinross in 2022), and explore where the Charterhouse Project can go next through a roundtable discussion and via anonymous feedback surveys to rate and prioritise suggested ideas and offer either new or additional suggestions.
Over 70 people attended the event over 3 hours, and approximately 25 stayed for the roundtable discussion, and 25 surveys were completed (with 18 completed by those identifying as local residents). From the roundtable, surveys and follow-up communications with specific individuals, we have identified the priorities of the resident community and stakeholder groups moving forward.
We are currently undertaking research into the practicalities and costs of the main priorities that emerged in the survey, including key-hole archaeology, expanding GPR survey area, community standing basement and stone surveys, archival project and an inspired by history sustainability project, and following up leads of suggested stakeholder contributions (made at the event or since). A follow-up meeting to discuss costs of various options, opportunities for funding applications and local support, and to make a plan going forward in terms of which elements to pursue and who will lead or be involved in each activity we choose (as a collective) to pursue will hopefully take place before the end of 2025.
